Boys water polo club is the first homework I did for the School of Song - Dave Longstreth songwriting class. My friend Dave Haimovich helped me out a bunch. The song doesn't really bear a narrative (nor do most of the songs I make as homework), but it has to do with Manhattan Beach, housesitting at seb wildblood's place, and a dog named Malcolm.
The homework assignment was to first listen deeply to a favorite recorded song. I chose Elvis Costello - Oliver's Army.
On each listen, notice something new about the song. I noticed a whole bunch of stuff that I think I wrote down somewhere.
Then, take what you heard and patch together your own song.
